A duet bet is a scaled down version of a trifecta and a quinella. The bettor must select only two of the first 3 placegetters in any order. It is a lot easier to win with a duet; subsequently, the winning returns obviously aren’t as good.
A duet is a pari-mutuel bet type where the dividend varies according to the number of winning bets.
The cost of a duet is very similar to a box quinella and depends on how many selections are included to fill 2 of the first 3 places. If 3 horses are selected, the duet will cost $3, if 4 horses are selected $6, 5 = $10, 6 = $15.
The example shows the bettor has selected 3 horses of which they will need to 2 to run in the top 3 placegetters. The cost of the duet is $3 the same as it woul dbe for a box quinella. However, if 2 of the horses run 2nd and 3rd or better the duet bet will be successful.
The only bookmaker to offer the Duet bet type is the tote (Tab). There simply isn’t enough demand for the other online bookmakers to offer the duet bet. For more information, see our bookmakers page.
