PlayUp Australia review

License information

PlayUp is licensed and regulated by the Northern Territory Government and has offices in Sydney, NSW. As with all betting sites licensed to operate in Australia, PlayUp is regulated by the Interactive Gaming Act.

History and ownership

PlayUp is owned by Australian company PlayUp Interactive Pty Ltd, the same entity that owned the ClassicBet, Mad Bookie and TopBetta brands. In addition to the new PlayUp, PlayUp Interactive Pty Ltd operates the Draftstars fantasy betting brands in both Australia and India and is set to launch a new entity in the United States.

ClassicBet was bought by PlayUp in 2018 and continued to operate the brand until October 2019. A short time later, PlayUp also purchased the Mad Bookie and TopBetta businesses. While the three brands collectively made some impact on the Australian betting industry, they were considered minnows amongst the larger players like Bet365. By merging three brands into one, PlayUp can deliver a better product and be more competitive amongst its Australian competition.

Responsible gambling

PlayUp also adheres to the codes of practice developed by the South Australian and the Northern Territory government. When you sign up for a new account with PlayUp, you will have the option to set deposit limits.

Consumer protection

PlayUp is an Australian betting company and hence governed by Australian laws meaning that you have rights as a consumer. Under Australian Consumer Law, Australian companies should not mislead or engage in any form of deceptive conduct.

Deposits and withdrawals

You can make deposits into your PlayUp account via credit card, EFT, BPAY or POLi. You will not be able to place a bet until your account has funds in it.

Withdrawals can be made via electronic funds transfer or credit card. If you used a credit card to deposit funds, you can withdraw funds back onto that card, but not a different card.

Website interface

The website interface for the new PlayUp brand is a marked improvement on previous bookmakers, ClassicBet, Mad Bookie and TopBetta. The left-side navigation is similar to most Australian betting sites and the site bears a resemblance to Palmerbet’s interface, though the branding is quite different.
