Neds review

Neds offers the best combination of horse racing betting products and smart interface in Australia.

Neds launched in Australia in 2017 and was promptly bought out by Ladbrokes just over 12 months later. Neds remains an independent brand and provides a better range of products than Ladbrokes. Neds continues to grow and pursue market share through some aggressive marketing campaigns.

Our review of Neds analyses the products and value-add features that make joining the digital betting site an appealing option.

License information

Neds is licensed and regulated to operate in Australia by the Northern Territory Government. The business abides by the laws outlined in the Australia’s Interactive Gambling Act 2001.

History and ownership

Neds was founded in 2017 by former bookmaker.com.au owner Dean Shannon. The business launched in the Spring of that year to great fanfare thanks to some aggressive marketing. In November 2018, Neds was bought by GVC Holdings the owner of the global Ladbrokes gaming business. Ladbrokes Australia and Neds now share some operations but remain independent of each other with no plans to merge. It is possible to be an account holder with both Neds and Ladbrokes.

Prior to the takeover, Neds was embroiled in controversy when Liquor and Gaming NSW fined the new betting operator $18,000 for offering inducements to bet to residents of New South Wales. Neds was also forced to remove ads depicting workers betting on their phone whilst on a construction site.

Service type

Neds is an online sports betting site that provides fixed odds markets on a range of sport and horse racing events.

Responsible gambling

Neds abides by the Northern Territory Code of Practice for Responsible Gambling and for South Australian residents they adhere to the South Australia Code of Practice for responsible gambling.

As an account holder, you can set pre-commitment limits and self-exclude yourself from betting for a period of time. Neds also provides external gambling help resources and identity checks.

Consumer protection

If you bet with Neds, you are afforded additional protection for betting with a company regulated in Australia. The ACCC and State gambling bodies all regularly monitor activity and allow you to report malpractice at any time.

Deposits and withdrawals

Neds provides multiple deposit options including: Credit card, Debit card, Paypal, Poli, BPay and Flexepin.

Withdrawals can be made to your depositing credit card, nominated bank account or your Neds card. Neds’ terms and conditions state that you must bet through all deposits at least once before you can withdraw any funds. Withdrawals may take between 1 – 3 to reach your bank account.

Verdict – why Neds?

Bookmaker Neds offers a betting service with all of the trimmings: great betting products, a fine betting app and a sleek website interface. There is nothing not to like. They differ from a brand like Sportsbet in that they provide better horse racing products like Best of the Best. The only add-on service that they do not provide is live streaming.
