License information

PlayUp is licensed and regulated by the Northern Territory Government and has offices in Sydney, NSW. As with all betting sites licensed to operate in Australia, PlayUp is regulated by the Interactive Gaming Act.

History and ownership

PlayUp is owned by Australian company PlayUp Interactive Pty Ltd, the same entity that owned the ClassicBet, Mad Bookie and TopBetta brands. In addition to the new PlayUp, PlayUp Interactive Pty Ltd operates the Draftstars fantasy betting brands in both Australia and India and is set to launch a new entity in the United States.

ClassicBet was bought by PlayUp in 2018 and continued to operate the brand until October 2019. A short time later, PlayUp also purchased the Mad Bookie and TopBetta businesses. While the three brands collectively made some impact on the Australian betting industry, they were considered minnows amongst the larger players like Bet365. By merging three brands into one, PlayUp can deliver a better product and be more competitive amongst its Australian competition.

Service type

PlayUp is a new online corporate bookmaker in the same vein as Neds and BetEasy.

Responsible gambling

PlayUp is committed to the practice of responsible gambling and provides an online guide which can be found here: https://www.playup.com.au/ResponsibleGambling. PlayUp also adheres to the codes of practice developed by the South Australian and the Northern Territory government. Consumer protection

PlayUp is an Australian betting company and hence governed by Australian laws meaning that you have rights as a consumer. Under Australian Consumer Law, Australian companies should not mislead or engage in any form of deceptive conduct.

Deposits and withdrawals

You can make deposits into your PlayUp account via credit card, EFT, BPAY or POLi. You will not be able to place a bet until your account has funds in it.

Withdrawals can be made via electronic funds transfer or credit card. If you used a credit card to deposit funds, you can withdraw funds back onto that card, but not a different card.

Feature products

Best of the Best

PlayUp logo

Best of the Best is the premier racing product available in Australia. Not every bookmaker offers the product but PlayUp certainly does. It is available on every Wednesday and Saturday metropolitan horse racing meet in Australia.

Lay of the Day

PlayUp logo

The same betting promotions are typically available with different bookmakers. PlayUp’s Lay of the Day promotion is one that you will not find with any other betting site. Every Saturday, PlayUp selects one horse that they effectively lay by providing highly inflated odds. Not even Bet365 for all their great promotions provides Lay of the Day.

BoostUp

PlayUp logo

Just about every betting agency has an odds boost product. PlayUp is no different, though theirs is called BoostUp. BoostUp is available daily to eligible account holders and allows you to boost the fixed odds of a particular selection.

Sports betting products

Despite being a newcomer to the Australian betting scene, PlayUp fields markets on a wide range of sports. Their coverage isn’t quite as exhaustive as a bookmaker like Sportsbet, but nonetheless you will be hard pressed to find an event of interest where that they do not cover.

The table below lists all of the sports betting products available with PlayUp.

Website interface

The website interface for the new PlayUp brand is a marked improvement on previous bookmakers, ClassicBet, Mad Bookie and TopBetta. The left-side navigation is similar to most Australian betting sites and the site bears a resemblance to Palmerbet’s interface, though the branding is quite different.

Verdict – why PlayUp?

PlayUp has only been around for a short period of time, however, it is clear that they offer products of value to new and existing customers. Horse racing fans will enjoy Best of the Best and the Lay of the Day products. At this stage, their promotions aren’t at the level of the major players, but their the racing products rival any bookmaker.
